![]() Last week I introduced the Habit Change Series, and we talked about how making small changes is the secret to making lasting habit change! If you can make achievable changes, consistently over time, I promise they will add up to big results! This week we’re going to get into our first “Small Change”. Have you thought about what change you’d like to make? Bring that to mind and think of it as you apply this first change to your situation. Ready for this week’s Small Change?? {Of course you are!} It’s Perspective Shift! What? Yep… that’s it. Perspective Shift simply means looking at your situation differently. Here’s how it plays out… You’re going to change your thoughts and words around your whatever the habit is that you’re working on. We’re going to shift from the negative into the positive, and you won’t believe what a difference it will make on how you think and feel!
Here are some examples to get you started. Consider how you can apply these for your situation. Shift: I have to vs. I get to or I’m blessed to Current Perspective: The only way I could have free time for myself is I’d have to get up for myself early in the morning otherwise there’s just no time for me. Perspective Shift: Wow, I’m really blessed to be able to get up early in the morning before everyone in the household and enjoy the quiet and the peace before everyone else is up. It’s nice to relax (or whatever you choose) to fill up my cup before everything else starts happening today. I’m so happy that I get to do that. Feel the difference? We’re talking about the same thing… having more time for yourself. But they feel SO different! Shift: Should do vs. Opportunity to do Current Perspective: If you’re feeling like your house is a mess you may be thinking, I should do something, I should clean up, I should get rid of stuff, I should get organized. {FYI: A “should” is a “could” wrapped in “shame” - don’t go there!} Perspective Shift: It really is great to have the opportunity to do something about the situation I’m in. I know the house has become a bit of a mess… but I have the opportunity to go through things, let go of things that are no longer serving me or my family. I have the opportunity to make this a nice home and landing spot for my family to come back home to at the end of the day. I can feel really good about that. That is a nice opportunity to have. Again, same thing - major difference in the VIBES you’re now feeling! Shift: Elimination vs Transformation Current Perspective: Ugh, I really need to lose weight - but to do that I need to cut out all of those processed foods I’m eating… I’d need to get rid of this and that… (you know how this sounds, right?!) Perspective Shift: I really want the best for my body, and to do that I’d like to lose some weight and in order to do so, it’s cool that I get to transform my lifestyle, transform the foods that I’m nourishing my body with. I get to add into my diet everyday, Whole Foods that are going to give me fuel and energy - things that are going to make me feel so much better. It’s amazing to think that a simple perspective shift can change the energy around things, which makes you feel good about it, and when you feel good - you’re more likely to do the thing! ACTION: Shift your perspective by catch yourself when saying or thinking things that aren’t in a negative mindset… Allow them instead to change into a more positive place to be. I believe this will be a nice start for you to begin the habit change you’re working towards. Simple changes - powerful results. Great work! I’m so excited for you and the journey you’re on! I’ll be back next week with Small Change #2. And before you go, send me an email and let me know… What was one negative thing you caught yourself saying about your situation & how will you shift your perspective into the positive? #ChangeYourHabitsChangeYourLife Bonus: Want accountability? {Yes you do, it’s crucial} Share this with a friend to follow this series with you! We all could use a little habit change help!
