🦋 Have you ever watched a butterfly dance from flower to flower? Haphazardly stopping by whatever seems appealing in that moment, then off it goes, to find the next brightly colored object of affection and continue its mysterious movement. Have you ever felt like that? Fluttering from here to there when you’re working, cleaning, or even just trying to focus. A little of this... a little of that... oh look, another flower... I’d better stop and check that out. 🌸🌺🌸🌺 Although the butterfly’s path is lovely to watch, when *we* mimmic it our path tends to be, well... messy and inefficient. Leaving us to have been busy all day, but not having much to show for all our efforts. 😳

One of my pet peeves is wasted time! Mama you are too busy to waste time when you could be saving it. When I have the chance to automate anything, I do it. I’m a believer in not recreating the wheel, when the wheel works so well. As promised, here’s a peek behind the curtain on how I’m working efficiently & saving time. “How could I possibly add one more thing to my to-do list?” you ask yourself as you stare blankly at the pages of your overly full planner. “I already don’t have enough time to get all of this stuff done, now I’m supposed to do *this* too?” Exasperated and frustrated, you sink back into your chair. So how are you going to do it? How are you going to add that one more thing busy mama? Whether it be homeschooling... or cyber schooling... or a weird alternating schedule that combines traditional school with on-line school... we’re about to embark on an interesting school year. My 16 y.o. son is going to be heading back to that weird... ahem, unconventional option I mentioned while my almost 5 y.o. son will be staying home for a traditional homeschooling experience, led by yours truly (with some help from my MIL on my workdays). I have to admit, I have some apprehensions about how it’s all going to play out.
I realized rather abruptly that I need a plan. You need a plan too. And anytime you’re going to add something to your schedule, well something’s gotta give. Your options are: What are you focused on? What could your focus be instead? (Lots of things, I know… that’s what makes it so hard.) But you have goals and purpose, right? Look to them. Yet, it’s easy to get distracted. Maybe you find yourself fluttering from one task to another? Giving time and attention to things that aren’t in alignment with those goals & your higher purpose. Check, check, and double-check… I’ve been there! Here’s how I overcome it… Let's get real for a minute... Do you find yourself saying YES too much? You know, when your gut is screaming I DON'T WANT TO... but the guilt overrides it and says WELL OK, I GUESS or SURE, COUNT ME IN. I've been there too... I think we all have from time to time. BUT, when you find yourself spending your precious time on other people's priorities on the regular, perhaps it's time for a change. So here's this week's one small change that you can make to free up time and feed your soul {which we totally need more of, do we not?!}. Are you a goal getter? I too have some lofty goals, and hope that you’ll be able to watch them unfold as I continue this journey. I imagine that if you are trying to live into your purpose you are a fellow goal-getter! Because how else could you work toward something great if you didn’t have some goals to get you there? But it is important to know that to achieve lofty goals, often times it’s the *small* changes that make BIG progress. This may go against what seems rational… however, can you think of a time when you’ve been so gung-ho to work towards something, that you tried to go as fast and as far as you could at once? Then the inevitable happened… burn out, frustration and an unaccomplished goal. |
