![]() WOW... The past few months have been intense... Not just the all around chaos of the world {I'm not sure intense is even a big enough word for that}... I'm talking specifically the things happening in my home (because I know you have so much going on in yours regardless of what's happening outside). And it's ok to acknowledge that! For me keeping up with my home, 3 kids (the youngest who's begun climbing on everything all the time - #24/7attention), and the added business project of creating new content and services to turn The Simplifying Specialist into something bigger... has all been, ummm, exceptional. And you know what friend, I’m tired. Yet, it’s a good tired. It’s a fulfilled and joyous exhaustion. (Is that a thing?!) I hope you can relate in some way. Maybe it’s not creating a business, but I’m sure there’s something you’ve done that has left you feeling this happy fatigue. In this season, I’ve been toying with the idea of capacity and stretch, as it kept coming back to me when I thought I had nothing left in me to give. Sometimes I acknowledged it was time to throw in the towel (for the day) and other times I knew I needed to push and stretch (for an hour or afternoon or whole evening more). But here’s what I’ve ultimately decided on and what I’d like to share with you today... your capacity has a fine line, but one that moves with the day. It’s only when you push outside your comfort zone to stretch yourself that you learn what that true capacity is. But it’s in this too that you learn more deeply about yourself, about what you need in any given moment, and how to give yourself the grace to acknowledge when your limit has been met. {oh, that's good stuff - read that part again!} Could I have got less sleep and created more content? Could I have worked more and played with the kids less? Could I have created for 30 more minutes when I thought I was maxed out? Maybe. Sometimes I did, and sometimes I had to call it. I was at my capacity. I stretched as far as I could. Some days I pushed myself, I went away and spent entire weekends at my cabin in the mountains... working and creating from morning until night. Other days I never let work cross my mind as I was fully immersed in mom-life, making meals, helping kids, playing on the floor, and reading stories. {Learn more about how I create home routines and find time for joy in this video... How to Stress Less & Find More Joy}
Accept that your capacity for each day may vary, and that it’s ok. If you ran a marathon yesterday, we don’t expect you to have the capacity to do it again today, right? And if you sat idle all day to rest and rejuvenate your body, then perhaps tomorrow it’s time to give yourself a push. I don’t believe that balance exists, {gasp - I can't believe she said that! I know. We'll dive more into this another day.} As much as that term is thrown around, I don’t believe that everything you do is equal, nor should it be. Yet that's the definition of balance. Here’s what I do believe in.. I believe in a beautiful rhythm of life. Perhaps you’ve heard me talk about this before, it’s actually the core belief of my mission. The ebb and flow, the ups and downs, and the stretch and capacity of life. I encourage you to find yours. To accept it. To make it work for you and your family. {Think About This One} And I’m here supporting you, here to help you find that rhythm if you need the guidance, or simply to cheer you on or tell you it’s ok, or even give you a bit of tough love (cause sometimes we need it). I believe it’s in that rhythm that you’ll find the ultimate way to simplify your life. Take a moment and check in with yourself, your body, and your heart... is today a time to rest in your capacity or stretch a bit more? DM me on social or send me an email to let me know! We'll celebrate either way!
