![]() “How could I possibly add one more thing to my to-do list?” you ask yourself as you stare blankly at the pages of your overly full planner. “I already don’t have enough time to get all of this stuff done, now I’m supposed to do *this* too?” Exasperated and frustrated, you sink back into your chair. So how are you going to do it? How are you going to add that one more thing busy mama? Whether it be homeschooling... or cyber schooling... or a weird alternating schedule that combines traditional school with on-line school... we’re about to embark on an interesting school year. My 16 y.o. son is going to be heading back to that weird... ahem, unconventional option I mentioned while my almost 5 y.o. son will be staying home for a traditional homeschooling experience, led by yours truly (with some help from my MIL on my workdays). I have to admit, I have some apprehensions about how it’s all going to play out.
I realized rather abruptly that I need a plan. You need a plan too. And anytime you’re going to add something to your schedule, well something’s gotta give. Your options are: something gets cut and/or you become more efficient at doing things that need to remain.
Here’s how it’s going to play out for me... my beloved early mornings that were once all to myself (and more recently have looked like indulging in extra sleep) will now be a bit different. It’s back to early rising to center myself, prepare for the day, and complete work related tasks. (Which were getting done later at nap time.) Then, since my little guy is the earliest riser of all 3 kiddos, we’ll start his school lesson once he's up (he always hits the ground running). I’ll be able to do this early morning lesson even on my workdays - bonus! (I’m using Horizon’s Preschool Curriculum Set, a Christian based plan that is completely laid out for me - taking all of the “what should I teach him / am I doing right” anxiety out of the equation.) Ya know, I’m actually looking forward to this one-on-one time with him beginning the day in scripture. Once my 20-month-old is up, it’s game over! We’ll be back to business as usual... which really means chasing her around while I do my housework, run errands, etc - whatever is scheduled for the day. When she’s down for nap (just after lunch) we’ll be back to the school lesson to finish whatever still needs done. I think breaking it up into these 2 parts will be more beneficial than trying to cram it all into one sitting (which may become overwhelming to both of us). After that, he’ll be ready for resting time, and well... so will I! A mid-day meditation may be going on the schedule! {Hello Headspace}
Oh, and as for making my days more efficient (remember that was the 2nd way to build in something new) I’m finding ways to be more automated in my business - which I’ll share more about on social later this week. Sometimes it’s the little things that can make a big impact! And efficiency in business (and life) is always good - but becomes crucial when adding something new to your plate. What’s *your* new plan going to look like?
