![]() Want to know one of my best productivity secrets? It’s the way I can accomplish all the things as a MOMpreneur. Mom-ing, working, life, meals, chores, projects, blah blah blah... all. the. things. Here ya go: I have become a master at shifting gears!
WHAT? It’s having the ability to go from starting my morning with time for me - then a bit of work - taking care of the kids - making lunch - settling them in for naps - switching back to work - back to playing with the kids - moving onto making dinner - followed by kids’ bedtime routines - back to finish out work quick - catching up with hubby - before completing with a nighttime routine. But here’s the best part: doing all this without stumbling, wasting time, or getting lost in between! Sound like an upgrade? It is, my dear, it is! WHY? Too often time is lost while you are trying to figure out what the next best course of action is. Especially when you are trying to squeeze work into early morning hours or nap times. Or maybe you lose time trying to consider what could be made for dinner when you are already supposed to be making it! Perhaps you get so overwhelmed trying to decide what needs done, that you just don’t do anything! When you have an intentional plan in place, listing out everything you want to accomplish in that day (and when), it makes switching gears so much easier (and faster). NOPE! This is not to be confused with multitasking, because I think we know by now that is only mentally exhausting and proves to be ineffective most times. What I mean is being in a lovely rhythm that allows you to transition from task to task without skipping a beat. HOW? Being a master at shifting gears requires you to do weekly planning in advance, where you create actions (in your planner) for everything from work to meal plans (& everything in between). This planning is ideally done each weekend (but do what works for you boo). Each day you check in on those actions in the morning before you begin, glance at them throughout the day to make sure you are in alignment, and review them each night so you know where you’re headed when you wake up the next day.
